Earth Month 2024

April 22 is Earth Day, and the med center is celebrating all April long! This Earth Month will focus on nature and biodiversity. Learn more about how the med center improves our community’s biodiversity and what we are doing to maintain a natural environment this month. Check out the list below to learn how to participate in the Earth Month celebrations and engage with nature.

 

Healthcare Ecochallenge – Online All Month

Join the Healthcare EcoChallenge, where you can take sustainable action directly related to healthcare and health topics. Click here to join the med center team and earn points! Top-scoring participants will be recognized and receive a local gift card or a lab coat tote bag at the end of the month.

 

Nature Photo Contest – Online All Month

The Office of Sustainability is hosting a photo contest! Share how you interact with nature on or off campus during April for the chance to win a gift card to a local business or an upcycled lab coat tote bag!

 

Campus Cleanups – April 24, 12-1pm

Join us in picking up trash around campus over lunchtime with the Blue Bucket Project. We will be cleaning up at Lot 64 around the native prairie. We will make sure the prairie is clean while also learning more about its benefits and other engagement opportunities! Register here and invite your friends, coworkers, and classmates!

 

Arbor Day Tree Planting Ceremony – May 1, 12-1pm

Join the Office of Sustainability, HEAL, and Student Senate in the bi-annual tree planting event! Help improve green spaces on campus while learning more about our Planetary Report Card. We will have stickers, snacks, seeds, and saplings available, and you will also have the chance to name the trees being planted. NOTE: This event has been moved to May 1st due to inclement weather on the originally scheduled date. 

 

Urban Pollinator Habitat: Supporting Health & Wellness – Online, April 9, 12-1pm

The Office of Sustainability will host an online webinar to learn more about urban pollinator habitats and their impact on health! We will have two great speakers: Benjamin Vogt, owner of the prairie-inspired design firm Monarch Gardens, and Bob Gittins, the president and founder of Nebraska Monarchs

 

LiveGreen Ambassador Kick-Off – Online, April 19, 12-1pm

LiveGreen Ambassador Program (LGA) is officially an Employee Resource Group (ERG) at the med center! Join us on April 19th to begin planning what the LGA program will look like this year! The LGA program is an excellent opportunity for faculty and staff to create climate action on campus. To learn more about previous efforts by LGAs, go to the LiveGreen website

 

Personal Document Shredding and Electronic, Battery, and Techno Trash Recycling – May 7, 10am-6pm and May 8, 6am-2pm | UNMC Grounds Building

We are extending our Earth Month celebration into May with our annual recycling event! So, bring your e-waste and old media to be recycled.
