Come celebrate Arbor Day and our designation by the Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree Campus USA for the 3rd straight year!
On Friday, April 29th (which is officially Arbor Day!) we’ll be planting a tree in the Michael Sorrell Center courtyard (green space just east of ice rink; see map below for location) at 11:30 am.
We will be giving away FREE Trees and wildflower seeds on a first come, first served basis!
After the tree planting, join LiveGreen and City Sprouts for an opportunity to get your hands dirty and give back to the community! City Sprouts is Omaha’s oldest community garden, committed to building local food systems, improving community health, empowering neighborhoods and strengthening economic viability and sustainability. They do all of this with donations and volunteers and their results are fantastic! This year we are going to help them out by planting all of their squash and melons from seed. We’ll have all the supplies, you get to come plant seeds that local high school students have volunteered to tend, and know that you are helping out! City Sprouts will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
After you get done planting, visit the UNMC Spirit Day activities to congratulate yourself on a job well done!
